Working With the Ball on the Move – Tips for Improvement

Gaming

In any ball game, handling is the crucial part of ball control. Movement and making plays is a fundamental group of match skills requiring excellent control, and fluency. It requires development of natural and learned skills, and the creation of fundamental athletic skills. There are a lot of different net ball training programs, but all emphasize these critical areas in some form.

Ball movement basics

Ball movement in netball is conducted at lightning speed. The play requires excellent reflexes and good situational awareness. Training therefore must provide good orientation for match play situations as far as possible. This is absolutely essential for relatively inexperienced players who lack the coordination for rapid movement.

  • Agility: A game played at high speed includes a lot of risks. Many players can be a danger to themselves, because they don’t even know how to recover from their own sudden grabs at a passing ball. Balance and coordination training will provide good agility as well as drastically improving handling and tactical skills.
  • Dodging: Dodging is almost an art form. This skill has to be learned from the feet up, including the ability to step quickly and accurately off either foot, and accelerate out of tight situations. This type of training can also be a lot of fun.
  • Pivoting: Pivoting involves sudden changes of movement or orientation, often at speed. One of the most valuable of all athletic skills, it’s an important game skill in netball, and often required in set plays. Training should emphasize various situational responses involving pivots.

Handling skills

Ball handling is purely a learned skill. Depending on the training program, handling skills are  สูตรบาคาร่า  developed through systematic training of increasing levels of difficulty and complexity. Sprint training is extremely useful in rapidly developing handling skills, because players soon develop much more awareness of the ball and learn how to anticipate ball play situations.

To develop to match standard requires a lot of ball movement practice, preferably including “rehearsal” matches where skills are practically applied. This type of training is also good for situational management, requiring agility, dodging and pivoting on a sustained basis.

Training programs

No two players are the same. All have different strengths and weaknesses. Training programs need to provide some room for both achieving performance standards and personal training. Unlike other sports, netball doesn’t allow the luxury of “players as spectators”, and everyone has to be literally on the ball all the time.

Skills management

It’s advisable to operate what are effectively two training programs: An ongoing netball training program, and individually tailored training for all players to develop their skills. One of the great advantages of this approach is that you can get help from the highly skilled players, who are naturally good trainers in their own strong skill sets. Working with skilled athletes invariably improves performance in others.

Skills management can be customized to meet the needs of any player or team in any context. The best netball training programs are systematic, thorough, and will help you identify any issues well before they become problems.
